It is recommended to bring a combination of cash and a credit/debit card for accessing money while on the trek. ATMs are available in Kathmandu and Pokhara, but may be limited or unreliable in some of the smaller villages along the trekking route.

It is also recommended to exchange money in Kathmandu or Pokhara before starting the trek, as currency exchange services may be limited or unavailable in smaller villages. Many tea houses along the trekking route may also accept major currencies such as US dollars or Euros, but it is important to check with the tea house owner before making a purchase.

Having an emergency fund can also be helpful in supporting the local communities along the trekking route. This can include supporting local businesses or making donations to local organizations that support the environment or local communities.

Overall, it is important to plan ahead and be prepared with emergency funds and access to money while trekking to Annapurna Base Camp. Bringing a combination of cash and a credit/debit card, exchanging money before starting the trek, and supporting local communities along the way can help to ensure a safe and sustainable trekking experience.

There are two options for transportation from Kathmandu to Pokhara and back: drive or flight. The drive is approximately 7-8 hours long and takes you through scenic routes with picturesque views of the hills and valleys. On the other hand, the flight is only 25-30 minutes long and offers stunning aerial views of the Himalayan ranges.

The drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara is via the Prithvi Highway, which is a well-maintained road that connects the two cities. There are both private and public buses available for transportation, and they are quite affordable. If you prefer a more comfortable and private ride, you can also hire a private car or jeep.

The flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara is a popular option for those who want to save time and avoid the long drive. Several airlines operate daily flights between the two cities, including Nepal Airlines, Yeti Airlines, Buddha Air, and Simrik Airlines. The flights are generally reliable, although they may be affected by weather conditions, particularly during the monsoon season.

If you choose to fly, it's best to book your tickets in advance, especially during peak tourist season. It's also important to note that flights are subject to cancellation or delays due to weather conditions, so it's always best to have a contingency plan in case of any unforeseen circumstances.

Whether you choose to drive or fly, both options offer unique experiences and views of the beautiful Nepalese landscape.

Nepal's road network is limited and often in poor condition, especially in rural areas. Landslides, road washouts, and other natural disasters can also occur, leading to road closures and disruptions in transportation. During the monsoon season (June-September), roads are particularly vulnerable to damage and can become impassable in some areas.

In terms of traffic, cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara can be congested and chaotic, with drivers often ignoring traffic rules and regulations. It's important to exercise caution when crossing roads and to be aware of your surroundings at all times.

It's always a good idea to check local news sources and travel advisories before planning a trip to Nepal to stay informed of any potential safety concerns.

Altitude sickness, also known as acute mountain sickness (AMS), is a common problem that hikers and trekkers can experience when ascending to high altitudes too quickly without allowing their bodies time to acclimatize. It can cause symptoms like headache, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and difficulty sleeping.

To prevent altitude sickness during the Annapurna Base Camp Trek, it's important to follow these guidelines:

  1. Acclimatize slowly: Ascend slowly, taking at least two to three days to get to higher altitudes above 3,000 meters. Make sure to take rest days to allow your body to adjust to the new altitude.

  2. Drink plenty of water: Staying hydrated is essential for acclimatization. Drink at least 3-4 liters of water per day, and avoid alcohol and caffeine, which can dehydrate you.

  3. Eat a balanced diet: Eating a healthy, balanced diet with plenty of carbohydrates and protein will help fuel your body for the trek and provide the necessary nutrients to help you acclimatize.

  4. Take necessary medicines: Some medicines like acetazolamide can be taken to help prevent altitude sickness. However, it is important to consult with a doctor before taking any medications.

  5. Recognize the symptoms: Be aware of the symptoms of altitude sickness, and if you experience any symptoms, descend to lower altitude and seek medical attention if necessary.

By taking necessary precautions, you can minimize the risk of altitude sickness and enjoy a safe and memorable trek to Annapurna Base Camp.

Gosaikunda Lake trek 2016!

23rd September, 2022

I’ve heard about the Gosaikunda Lake trek from some of my Nepali friends living here from quite a long time ago so I thought of doing the trek. I thought of doing the trek with Actual Adventure and contacted Kedar the response was good and very quick. I need not had to bargain about the price because it was very reasonable. They had managed everything on my arrival I received a very warm welcome the accommodation was luxurious and perfect in Kathmandu and foods were awesome.  The guide Pasang managed the best available lodges even during the trek. The people were very friendly, polite and caring. I trekked during the Hindu festival of Janaipurnima so I get chance to interact with many pilgrims on the way. The roads were beautifully decorated with evergreen forests and so many beautiful Lakes on the way. Pasang was always there for help and was a great company to travel with. I am happy with the company and their service. I suggest this company to everyone for a remarkable trekking experience.

An incredible experience that I can’t wait to do again.

12th January, 2020

I travelled with Prem to Everest Base Camp and cannot recommend him and his team enough. He’s a kind, thoughtful and motivational guide, knowledgeable about the mountains and culture. The team of sherpa’s and guides were incredible and wanted to make our experience there the best possible. The whole experience, the views, the hiking and tea houses (an experience in themselves!) can’t even be put into words. If I can give two pieces of advice..Go outside after dark and see the stars and take a hot water bottle with you! I was quite unwell when out there, but Prem supported me through it and monitored the safety of me progressing; I felt in safe hands. I know it takes a lot of planning for a trip like this, but it was seamless...I’ll be going back to Nepal to do Annapurna one day and will 100% book through Sole Encounters.

Great guide and Great company!!

6th March, 2023

One of those in my small group sufferred particularly badly with the altitude and so our guide had to turn around with her and her father at Manang  Fortunately, Sole Encounters Trekking Company  were also guiding a private group trekking in parallel with ours who agreed to let me join up with them. This was just one aspect of the flexibility demonstated by the guides, giving everyone the best oppportunity to complete the trek. On our way back, because of bad weather a day before and an aircraft breakdown we weren't able to fly out of Jomsom the day we were scheduled to, but our guides were able to arrange for us to stay an extra night there (without extra charge) and shift our final night hotel stay in Kathmandu a day later, minimising disruption. I can throughly recommend this operator .. travell with very experienced guide always best we had

Our Annapurna Base Camp Trekking package was an unforgettable experience

1st July, 2023

Our Annapurna Base Camp Trekking package was an unforgettable experience that captured the essence of adventure in the Himalayas of Nepal. Renowned worldwide, this trek offered awe-inspiring mountain vistas and an opportunity to immerse oneself in the rich culture of traditional Nepali villages.

As we embarked on this journey, we were greeted by magnificent and serene landscapes, each one more breathtaking than the last. Along the way, we were treated to panoramic views of renowned peaks such as Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Hiunchuli, Mt. Gangapurna, and the majestic Mt. Machapuchare. These towering giants seemed to paint the sky, leaving us in awe of their grandeur.

However, the true beauty of this trek extended beyond the mountains. We were fortunate to have excellent company and a dedicated crew accompanying us throughout the expedition. Their warm hospitality and expertise made the entire experience even more enjoyable.

Moreover, the trek provided us with opportunities to interact with the local people who call the Himalayan region their home. We had the privilege of immersing ourselves in their vibrant culture, witnessing their traditions firsthand, and forging connections that transcended language barriers.
